Why this project exists?

A cancer diagnosis often triggers sudden income loss alongside increased living, treatment and care-related costs. Delays or errors in benefit decisions can cause significant financial and emotional harm at an already vulnerable time, particularly where health, disability and caring responsibilities intersect.

This project was developed to ensure people affected by cancer receive timely, specialist advice that reduces stress and prevents financial crisis during treatment and recovery.

How we help?

We deliver specialist welfare benefits advice through a hybrid model, combining place-based support in health settings with remote access to ensure advice is accessible when and where it is needed.

Support includes:

Specialist welfare benefits advice.

Ongoing casework and advocacy.

Income maximisation, debt resolution and access to charitable grants.

Support for people living with cancer and their carers.

Advice is provided:
in hospital wards and clinical settings,
as well as through phone,
e-mail and
online channels,
reducing barriers linked to health, mobility, fatigue and treatment schedules.

Impact

This project helps stabilise household finances, reduce stress and anxiety, and support recovery by ensuring people affected by cancer can access the financial support they are entitled to at the right time.
